About Soluz

The Soluz REDCO Business Model

Soluz REDCO PV Product/Service - The Soluz REDCOs offer PV systems consisting of PV modules, control units, storage batteries, lighting, wiring, and connection to small appliances, typically retrofitted onto buildings for low-voltage DC service. Soluz systems typically provide two to 24 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month. A standard 50-watt system can power four lights for three to four hours nightly and radio and/or television for several hours daily. Battery storage allows for reliable power 24 hours a day and provides surplus for extended rainy periods.

The REDCOs retail PV systems on a cash, credit, and rental basis, with monthly rental fees for systems with one to six lights plus appliances ranging from $10 to $35 per month.

Expanded Services - While Soluz's basic REDCO PV systems are a major driver in establishing delivery infrastructure—with ready demand quickly and cost effectively building a revenue stream—they also create opportunities for expansion through the existing infrastructure, through:

• Income generation - Soluz is expanding its rural energy delivery, already viable for many microenterprises, for greater income-generating services, such as communications—rural phone centers—and refrigeration.

• Public services - Soluz offers "wireless" rural energy for public services, through linkages with a variety of institutions, for electrification of schools, clinics, and other communal applications.

• New products - The Soluz REDCOs are also piloting other products and services for complementary markets, including back-up power and PV security/lighting systems.

REDCO Operational Structure - Soluz's REDCO subsidiaries operate out of service centers located near rural markets, supported by strategically placed national offices, and each equipped to serve 500 to 1000 customers. Zone Supervisors, who report to the centers, manage PV system maintenance and collections for geographical zones with 250-750 customers, and supervise a network of Soluz MicroCenters. The MicroCenters are rural micro-enterprises typically serving 20 to 100 Soluz customers, collecting payments and handling service requests under contract to Soluz.
